19/03: SD Expo
Gosh. It's been a while since I've had time to post, and I've got quite a backlog of entries. I'm hoping to get them out here within the next month. In the meantime, I'll be at SD Expo late next week presenting Benefits of the Build - A Case Study in Continuous Integration, and From Code to Architecture. If you're at the conference, stop in to say "hi".

I see here you're gearing up with Ruby -- my current favorite. I'm only now starting to write idiomatic code, but the language just keeps growing on me. These days I seem to code in either the quick toss-a-script-together mode or in Rails.
Can't remember if I mentioned it in the hallway (I probably did), but I actually gave a talk on Ruby at West; hadn't planned to, but Tami mentioned Tuesday night that her speaker canceled for the intro class in their brand-new Ruby track. I unwisely said "Oh, any doof could do an intro to Ruby! When's the class?"
"Eight-thirty tomorrow."
"Ulp. I guess I'll be getting back to my room to put something together then."
"I guess you WILL."
I stopped short walking up the aisle to the podium -- there was Uncle Bob, and I'd just heckled his keynote the day before. "I'm going to pay for that, aren't I?" He just grinned evilly. And loaned me his laser pointer. What a guy! And what did I do in return? Showed him Woot. Shame on me.
Anyway, shall we lunch or something? I'm on campus and usually not extremely mobile, since I bike in, but do in fact possess a car. I'm 265-3288 at the Soil Science office, or the email below.
